I hear Cichlids likes caves... I am going to start stocking my 72 gallon today (no cichlids yet.. just cories today.. ) but when i get them I want there to be the hiding spots they like. currently the only hiding spot I have is a large clam shell :/ For the cories... but anyway, would this work? I will only have rams and cockatoo chiclids

if so...
what size pipe?
how big of an opening?
how many for each fish?
how long should it be?
would they use it?

im afraid i dont really get your drawing but its african cichlids that like caves the most and if youve got corys im guessing your not going for them?

NW cichlids will appreciate hiding spots but you dont have to do anything major.

I understand the drawing, the apisto's will be the only one's to use the caves though as rams spawn etc. in open water.

The whole thing needs to be about the size of a coconut. Put about 3 in the tank and spread them out.

:good:

alright c0ol. cories can stay with the damn clam shell and be happy..

the only cichlid siZ will have is German Rams anr angel fish. :/

Angel and rams wouldn't use the caves.

I know.. now anyway.. ok.. no caves.. the cories seem to like the large clam shell.. I have 2 of threee different kinds.. they seem to have adapted to the slight PH chnage of .4 quite nicly, how many should I have? they seem like social animals..

Cories like big groups 5+ of each type.

:good:
ok.. I will be sure to get 3 more of each kind next time I am at the store. but they all seem to bhe nice and happy together..

I don't know but 8ppm is more than most fish can produce. Is it an ammonia spike?

BTW sparrow, bit random lol, he's not making caves anymore and also his idea was to use tubes and cover them with rocks.

:good:

Unless you're going to cover the whole pipe with rocks, it's going to topple over to one side - that's for sure.

I've not found siliconed rockes (even small gravel) to work very well (and you need a heck of a lot of silicone). But good luck !

I have gone for a very simple option. I have got a terracotta pot the size of a coconut and nibbled away at the edge of it with some pliers. As a result i made an arch big enough for my convists to fit and put it in the tank upside down..... they laid eggs in there on Monday :D
