I'm getting my first betta at the end of this week (thanks Modaz!) can't wait!

I have the tank set up on my desk ready for him, it's a Aqua 40 28 litre tank, with filter and heater. I've put fine gravel on the base with a piece of bogwood, a small piece of slate and some pebbles. I'm going to get some plants from my LFS on Thursday evening. Also going to get some Hikari pellets for him.

Any particular plants that are best suited? I've also seen mention of caves on here, will he like a cave to hide in. if so, I might take the slate or bogwood out and replace if with a small coconut cave, or something? What would be best?

Anything else I need to get? I've covered the end of the filter with a piece of stocking/panty hose, hope that'll be ok, if not I'll get a new one with spray bar - I have one that came with the tank but it doesn't seem to be working.

I find easy to keep plants the best, things like amazon sword and vallis are what I use in my tanks. They grow really well and provide some great leaves for the bettas. Cave wise - lots of different ornaments out there, they love hiding places, coconut caves, anything they can safely go into and not get stuck. You obviously don't want them getting cut on anything sharp either. Post some pics when your all sorted :)

thanks, I'll def. post photos. I'll look for some caves online now.

I found a half-coconut shell with an entrance cut in it on t'Internet and bought it, have boiled and soaked it and added it this evening and he's been in twice already, seems to like it.

Also I fed him this morning (Hikari Betta Bio Gold pellets), 3 pellets (they're tiny!) and he ate them straight away, so seems to be settling in.

He's so gorgeous. I have visitors staying this weekend, but will sort some photos soon.

tank setup sounds perfect :good: any pics?

plug time, we got small caves and plants available,.............cough...........cough  caves going back on after the VAT changes on Monday plus some more stuff too

He is beautiful. I get terrocata plant pots, scrub them and then stick a small button over the drain hole with aquarium seal! :good:

If using coconut caves you might want to sand them down abit as we have found in the past the they can still snag their fins on the sharp bits :good: but once smooth they make great little hide aways for them :good:

oh i remember him , arh ha now i know who you are  do hiding now
