Well, I just bought some cribs and I have a coconut that I have drained, I want it to be for my plecs and my cribs, I already have half a coconut. But i'm wondering if I should just put a circular hole in it and have it as a whole cave or do it in halves? If I do it in halves then they have a bigger choice of caves to choose, and also there will be more caves for my plecs.

I would cut a quarter of the end of it. Half a coconut doesnt make for a very good cave, you want something that they can go into and fell secure in. Therefore I think 3/4 of a coconut would be better.

Could you please draw a diagram of how I would place this into a tank? Also, they are only with small fish, and the biggest fish in at the minute is a baby angel fish.

Sorry for the hijack but how would you keep the water in the cave fresh? I have both krbs and bristlenose cats and I think they would very much enjoy a cave.

This is what I think it should look like neal

I would recommend that you also put gravel (or whatever your substrate is) inside the shell to weigh it down.

Marcos, I wouldnt think that the water in the shell would change, water movement in the tank and convection currents caused by warm and cold water would be enough to keep it "fresh". In addition, if fish do take up home in the shell then their movements will also displace water.

Hope this has helped.

Made two coconut caves last night, the kribs love it!

Can we see a picture so see how they match up to Tanks Diagram please.

I have two, one at each end of the tank,

This one's hidden behind some bogwood. My male krib checking out his crib!
