hey

one of my guppies has lost a section of his caudal fin it was fine last night and this morning at lights on a bit was missing

he is swimming around happily still and eating fine and still has all his colour

could this possibly be down to play fighting???

it is not fin rot and every other fish in the tank is fine

If you feed good foods and keep up with water changes it will grow back no problems with in 1-2 weeks.

Treating with melifix or myxazin will also help to stop any infections setting in.

cheers much appreciated i hope it does all grow back he has such a beautifull flowing tail!

I just noticed in your sig you have Neon's.

All tetra's may nip guppy tails from time to time, and on occasions 1 may go mad and shred all the males tails in one night.
It's happened to my self! So keep an eye out.

i see hmm this is not good!

if it happens again i will have to get rid of the tetras not having mu guppies pretty tails destroyed!

there is only one now the female died for some reason but i doubt it he is very calm with all my fish even at feeding time he waits until food comes to him instead of charging through them all and stealing there food

Apistogramma Cacatuoides are generally ok, yet a avid male can cause damage, persoanly more chance from tetra's.

if it happens again ill have to rethink stocking then :(
