Has anyone had any experience treating Hemorrhagic Septicemia? I have 3 colombian black finned catfish who are showing early signs. They were kept in a 60 gallon brackish tank with 3 mono sebaes. I believe they got it from being picked on by my school of Mono Sebaes...They became very stressed, although they were not showing signs of illness. I moved them into my 40 gallon archer tank and a few days later they began showing some signs. At first I thought it was fin rot, but the redness is coming from the base of the fin, not the edges... it is also surrounded by a lighter area.

The water in both tanks is virtually the same... ammonia- 0, No2- 0,No3- 5, sg- 1.010, temp. 78

Can anyone help?

If this is indeed septicaemia, this sounds like one of those times you will need to call on veterinarian help. Blood poisoning isn't the sort of thing that can be treated without recourse to antibiotics. It goes without saying that these fish need to be treated quickly. I'd get on the telephone today or tomorrow, and start calling around your local vets to find one that has some experience with fish.

Cheers,

Neale

Can you issolate the sick fish, do you have excess to antibiotics, plus when a fish has septicemia it can release the bacteria into the tank, so some water changes are needed.
