My catfish has just come out to play and he has a huge white mark on his side, bright white, like someone has tippexed him. Its about 12 mm long by 4mm wide. Any ideas? Iv tried to get a foto but he is shy.......

Size of tank in gallons, litres, how many fish and which type, water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph could be columnaris as corys are more prone to bacterial infections, is the white patch fluffy.

260 litres, in with another upside down cat, and some other much smaller tetras. All stats normal when checked yesterday. Its not fluffy so its not fungal. Its just a streak of white. Looks like a burn - but its not...

Photo ? Many catfish have the "camoflage" white patches that comes and goes when stress or frightened or no where to hide. Difficult to guess without more info.

What classes as "normal" for your stats ?

Could just be a scratch. Catfish, well, most anyway, have skin versus scales. When they brush against something sharp it scratches their skin just like it does ours. Our scratches are red, fish scratches are usually white or gray.

Keep an eye on it for infection and/or fluffiness as this is a sign of illness.
