Catfish,for Malawi Setup

hi all,,phoned the local pet shop up today,,asked if they had any cuckoo catfish,,had one years ago,,,.love them,,,the guy said he had some,,but also said that they had some,angelacus,catfish too,,,i have never heard of them,,,,,,help.

Synodontis angelicus - lovely catfish and relatively rare compared to other Syno's. Can be a little pricey though.

I've wondered this, my lfs said mbunas will kill anything in their tank thats not from malawi. But i've seen pictus catfish and red tail sharks in a mbuna tank and they're from SA.

i have some synodontis decorus in with my malawi but they get a little big at 12"

other good ones are synodontis petricola (can be a little hard to get) and synodontis multipunctatus (cuckoo catfish)

and the good old B/N plec

Just depends on the mbuna species (and individual temperment) as to whether or not they'll kill any additions. I had pictus with my mbuna and they seemed to get along until a bacterial infection wiped out most of my tank. IMO the RTBS wouldn't be able to stand up to the mbuna aggression and aren't quick enough to get out of the way like pictus and synos can.

On a side note, nice to see you posting again Ferris, I missed having you around.

I'm always around, that's what I'm good at. I did take a breather for about 6 months, kinda bummed out that I still hadn't moved. Good news though, I have a conditional job offer and if they ever get finished with my background investigation so I can finish the rest of the testing, I'll be moving in a month or two. It's only taken a year but I finally have something to look forward too. Now I just have to finish packing.
