As I am getting ready to stock my 45 gallon tank, I have come across something that I think would be interesting to try.

The Catalina Goby is a beautiful fish that, as explained at Live Aquaria , does very well in schools. I am considering 3 - 5 of them.

However, I do have a few questions about this first.

1. Will my tank be large enough to hold a small school of these fish?

2. Will there be a problem with the temperature of my tank? My temp being 78-80 degrees and these fish are naturally in 60-72 degree weather.

My plan for stocking is as follows:

2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Flame Angelfish
1 Royal Gramma
(Catlina Goby school) or a 6-line wrasse

Anyways... I think a school of Catalina gobies would be cool, any tips?

I know of people that have kept these fish in warmer tanks. They seem to be ok with this but it does appear to reduce their already short lifspans.

These gobies only live for about 18 months - 2 years max.. in warmer waters they usually last about 12 months -18 months.

I'd hate to cut their lifespan any shorter than it already is... but if that is how they function, maybe it's not such a bad thing. How long do these fish live in the wild? I plan on purchasing tank raised catlina gobies, could this help? What do you think about the general idea of it... good or bad?

These fish are not long lived.. about 2 years max in the wild.

tank bred fish are always a preffered option than wild caught for so many reasons. I just wish there were more tank bred species in the marine world.. a long way off but breakthroughs are being made each week.
