Hi All

Yesterday I noticed that my biggest Cat Sharks Dorsal Fin looks if it has been sort of nipped. The thing is that there is no fish in my tank that would do that. Well I haven’t seen any fish doing that. My Puffer stays well away.My husband said that he must be scraping it along the slate when he swims under the cave, I was doing the weekly water change today and the other three smaller Cat Sharks came out of hiding, and I noticed the same thing has happened to there dorsal fins. All other fins are ok and there are no other marks on there body.
What could it be or am I worrying for nothing?

Thanks

my money is on the puffer. he is a predator after all
personally I'd not keep a puffer with any other fish
they really do need to be in a species only set up.

Hi Wolf

I know people would say that, but if you see my puffer you know what I mean. He is the most
friendliest fish I ever seen. He moves out of the way when any fish approaches him. The Monos even nick food out of his mouth. Thinking about it my money is on the Monos. As soon as I got them, there was mayhem in my tank. My Sharks used to all stick together and swim about. Three weeks after I bought the Monos the three smaller Cat Sharks started hiding and they only come out for food these days. The big Cat Shark stayed where he has always been and never joined the other three. I realy starting to think it’s the Monos.

Are the nip marks circular or jagged?

Puffer nips are easy to tell usually as they are neat circular marks, if they dont look like this my money would be on the mono's too. I have had problems with monos picking on fish that are too peascefull before, they need something that is going to turn around and bite them back to put them in their place.

maybe pics would help if youre unsure?

i would imagine that, as cfc said, puffer bites would be neat and round, where as monos would be more scraggy and bitty. :dunno:

Hi All

Defiantly the Monos then. The fins look more like shredded, and last night I saw one of the Monos nip my Puffer. The only Fish that stands up to the Monos are my Archers. I was thinking of changing/swapping the Monos for a while now.
Thanks for everybody’s advise

you didn't mention that you had monos in your first post,
had you said that I would've3 pointed the finger at them in the first place.
