my sisters cat is getting in the back of my tank in a 3 inch space by teh filter. 2 fish r issing already n 2 top it off i dont even like cats. im ready 2 put a school of african piranha in there. has any1 had this same problem? if so help me out. thanx

Nope, luckily my cat gets on well with my fish. He bats the glass occasionally, but mostly he sits on a chair and watches them!

You could try filling a spray bottle with water, and each time the cat goes near the tank, spray it. Train it not to go there.

Again I'm too slow. Anyway, that was what I was going to suggest, so I suppose I simply second the idea. I have two cats who make a fantastic game out of trying to get at my tank. My kitten is amazed by the filter...

we keep squirt bottles over the house in random places and when they venture somewhere we don't want them (like a boiling pan of water on the stove) we squirt them, or sometimes just show them the bottle, and they get the idea.

so yea: squirt bottle idea rocks. g'luck

if i understand your question, all you need to do is cover it up. Most tops will come with a peice of plastic that you can cut to form around the filter, and covers any open spots. If you dont have one, just go to the pet store, they should have some for sale.

Taping down something like a turkey net (the net that comes on a whole, uncooked turkey) helps, too. That's what I've been known to use to keep my cats out of the tanks. Doesn't restrict airflow, but it surely restricts paws.

i'ved used the spray method aswell.

she gets a bit excited with my lizards clawing at the glass and shouting doesn't really help so give her a shower.

over wise just cover up the holes.

Let the piranha teach the cat a lesson, i'm sure he won't go back in once he has a tail tip missing, :D

on my old tank my cat used to like to drink the water out of it and it was easy because i had no top for it. One day i caught her sticking her paw in and i growled at her. Well, she got so scared that when she tried to run away she fell into the tank and got pretty wet before she was able to get out. Needless to say, she never went near the tank again.
