My mom just informed me that our carpets are going to be cleaned tomorrow, and I'm worried about my fish. Should I be? Has anyone had it done with either none, or ill effects of some sort? I'm probably leaving for a few days after it is done, so I won't be around to monitor and water change if I have to. I can always tell them not to do my room, but well, it needs it. Long haired dogs cause that. -_- Anyways, I also thought of covering tanks with towels, since of course there are holes in all my hoods but the Eclipse.

Opinions? Ideas? Thanks!

I'd cover the tanks and also turn off any air pumps you have going.
Heres hopeing for the best for you and your fish.

Oh, good idea on the airpumps!! I've only got one going, but goodness that coulda been bad. Thanks danio!! (Can't get over the name change yet :*) )

As an extra precaution you could add cardon to your tank to soak up any nasties that get into the water column. That's what I was advised when painting the woodwork near my tank.

I don't know Julie, we have had ours done a number of times and I've taken no precautions what so ever. They just come in with a steam cleaner and kind of vacume.

Of course my tank never gets moved so they have to work around it but I've never had any issues. I think if you take any of the precautions already mentioned you will be fine. I assume your tanks are all off the floor on a shelf, stand or something....

Why don't you use saran wrap instead of towels? Although that might not be good for a long period of time... I don't know.
I don't have carpet so I wouldn't know what kind of cleaning they do!! :dunno: -_-

if you want, you could also run the the airpump from a different, clean, room. if you have a looonnng length of tube. ;)

When I had my carpets cleaned a little while ago, I was a little worried about the betta tanks, since they've got holes in their lids. I didn't think to have an airstone running or cover the hoods with towels or saran wrap, but I had no problems.

Hope things go well
