How can I ensure that my fish are kept fed whilst away from home on holiday for a week? Is there a device available to feed the fish in my absence? I am a complete beginner in keeping tropical fish.

Set-up the electronic feeders you can get a few days in advance to ensure they function correctly. I have heared many horror stories about them malfunctioing while the owner is away and dumping their contents of food into the tank in one go, killing the fish  If it feeds the first few times when you are in, then you can be sure that it is functioning correctly, and you are arround if it does go wrong :good:

Feeder blocks are also available, but don't use in a small tank, as they will foul the water

IMO for a week, the fish are best left without food. In the wild they would go days, even weeks without food, and will naturaly slow their motabolisum to accomodate this. Just feed them up before you go (without overfeeding obviously) and feed sparingly once you get back, and things should be fine :good:
