Cardinal V Neon

Maybe it's a US thing then. I would love to hae some cardinals but there just aren't any around here. I remember seeing them all the time when I first got into the hobby in 2004.

I prefer neons to cardinal tetras for the below reasons in particular;

a. Neons are more adaptable to a wider range of ph.
b. Neons are cheaper.
c. They are some of the most commonly stocked fish, so if you ever want to get more its not difficult to find some.
d. As far as i am aware neons are bred commercially in captivity, while cardinal tetras are taken from wild stocks.

I don't think there's a great deal of difference in the colour in neons and cardinals, people say cardinals are more colourful than neons, but personally i can see any real difference between the two- as long as you look after them properly and keep them healthy, both fish are very vibrant in colour :) .

I vote for cardinals. They are alot better then neons. I find that cardinals are bigger then neons and have more deeper colour in their body.

I would go cardinals over neons because of the full red stripe. In my experience, cardinals seem to have a deeper red and the blue/green stripe has a nicer color than neons. I have not seen a neon around my area that has the deep colors that cardinals do. It may seem like only a small difference at the lfs, but when you bring them home, you can tell the difference easily
