Hey there! I went to the fish store today and bought some (2) cardinal tetras. I have a ten gallon tank being set up for them but for now, are in a 5 gallon. I was wondering how many would be good and what other fish would be good, for tankmates in a 10gal. Thanks!! :D

Ohh one more question. About how much would you say cardinal tetras usually go for? Don't wanna be getting ripped off!

Where are you located Fantasmic? and how much did you pay for your cardinals?

They should really be kept in larger groups as they are a schooling fish, I would suggest you buy at least another four when you have the tank sorted for them.

Any other fish that has a peaceful temprament will live happily with your cardinals, just bear in mind that they grow to around 1", and with 6 cardinals that it 6" of your initial 10" limit if you use the inch per gallon rule. Most people find they can go up to 2" per gallonwhen the tank is established and if the water quality and filtration is good enough.

Also cardinal tetras are often best added to a mature tank, many people say set up for at least 10 weeks, although some say at least 6 months!
