I've just ordered some carbon for my Tetratec EX 1200, i was wondering how i would put it in...

I've tried using it before but it ended up turning my hands black, does this matter? Do i just give it a quick rinse and then put it inside one of my media trays? Do i open the net which holds the carbon? Or do i just put it in as it is?

Thank you, your comments will be appreciated. :good:

is there a particular reason you want to use carbon? most people agree it's really not necessary as a regular day to day filtration media. There's a pinned topic in the new to the hobby section which explains more if you've not come across this before, called 'media types' or something like that. :good:

Tannins. ;)

fairy snuff then, just making sure!

doesn't matter then if your hands get a bit black, as with any fish stuff ensure your hands are clean before touching it though, best to put it in a mesh bag (the foot of a pair of tights will do if you don't have a mesh bag) or something like that so that it can be easily removed afterwards without disurbing the rest of the media, so yes if it comes in a bag then leave it in it....... unless it's just a plastic bag holding the packaging.... sure you get what i mean anyway!! lol

Thank you, Miss Wiggle. ;)

So, won't the black substance leak into my aquarium? And i always wash my hands before touching anything relevant to my aquarium.

Happy Birthday, hope you had a good one. :good:

it's only a bit of carbon dust, if it does leak you'll get a very slight dusting which will be cleared by the filter in no time.

When using carbon, all i do is take it out the plastic bag, rise it for a minute under running water and place it in the filter in the porous bag it comes in. :good:

Or, ok.

Thanks for the help.

It should arrive tomorrow, as well as my filter floss pads. :good:

If the carbon is under the floss, the dust won't get as far as the tank anyway :good: The floss will catch it all, unless you are getting media by-pass arround the floss, which is obviously an problem

On the rare occasion I use it in my filters, I use it loose, or in the media bag if supplied. Usualy loose though.... I find it tips out of the tray easily anyway :good:

Thank you, rabbut. ;)

I think it comes in a mesh bag, and i'll put it under the filter floss just to be sure. :good:
