I am replacing my Eheim Thermofilter (long story-2 heads-2 hose connectors, 1 flood and now no heater) with TetraTec EX700. I understand that it comes with carbon pads to put in the filter. I'm guessing that I should leave them out as they would possibly absorb anything I put in.

Am I correct in my assumption?

Alan

You are, indeed, correct. They will absorb most of the nutrients beneficial to plants.

Just put some extra sponge in that section of the filter.

Yep.
There was a thread made a while ago about this and someone posted a really interesting link that showed the effects. Had graphs and everything. You remember right Sam?
