Alright, so I decided to use maracyn on one of my planted tanks, now that the treatment is done I want to add a carbon insert to remove the rest of the medication.
My question is, how should I go about adding ferts to the aquarium being that carbon "supposidly" removes some trace elements?
Should I even bother adding ferts?
And how long should I leave the carbon iinsert in for? 1 week?

thanks folks.

Btw, the maracyn was for a slight mouth fungus problem I noticed on one of my tetra's, not for a BGA problem. :D

Is it a highlight tank lowlight tank?

Why not do a large water change and add the ferts back in and then run the carbon for a week (although i dont know how long it takes to remove medication i imagine a week is enough) and add more ferts midway through, it will remove the fertiliser but at what rate i have no idea i would imagine it would take awhile.

If its a highlight tank i would do a large water change, add the appropriate quantities of ferts back in, run the carbon filter for the week, and at the end of the week do another large water change and start again without the carbon.

Or you could just do water changes every couple of days for a week and forget the carbon filter.

My *2 cents*

I was thinking about not using a carbon insert at first and just doing a few water changes to get rid of it, but then I though, well, every medication says to use a carbon insert to get rid of it after treatment.

I'm going to add a carbon and do a few water changes over the course of a week to accomplish it.

Thanks zig.

It's a medium lit tank, 2.4 WPG.
