Carbon Filter

OKay i put some stuff in my water to clear the algae and it says to take the carbon out of my filter but i have a carbon filter hat do i just take the whole filter out or are there certain kinds without carbon

Hi there,

I wouldnt suggest removing the filter entirely. There is usually (or at least there should be) a part of the filter that is accessible to the sponges and other filter media you may have.
Some filters are made up of many kinds of media and the medication is asking you to remove the Carbon media.
Carbon is used to remove meds, and very small particles (among other things) that other media will not.
Carbon can resemble black charcoal like media, sometimes in bags and sometimes impregnated into sponge pads (black).

Open up your filter and remove the carbon media that may/may not be in there

Some details of tank size, filter type etc would help us further also

Leave the filter running But take out the cartrige, If you turn off the filter you will kill all the good bacteria living in the filter.
