Ok, so I finally got my 105 gallon tank, and my filter (rated to 110 Gallons and will soon be adding another after fish get larger) has like a 3 layer thing, and one of them is carbon. I will be keeping as oscar, jack dempsey, and convict in there and was wondering if there is really any truth to the carbon contributing to the hole in head disease, especially on the oscar?

Never heard this story before.

Carbon is used to take out chemicals out of the water and water your water clear. However after a month or so it starts to release it all back into the water which is why I dont use carbon in my tanks unless to remove something I dont want.

About the hole in the head it is a myth imo.

Aight, cool, does anybody else have any opinions?

I have read that the use of carbon is a possible cause of nutrient deficiency and therefore implicated in hole in the head. I read it in a book about keeping Discus the book was pretty reliable from what I could tell. It’s only a theory; don’t think it has been proved. There is normally no need for carbon; I never use it, except to remove medicine.
