I'm running a brackish 40 long with 2 gsps and some mollies, I have one that I believe is a molly but can't identify and looks nothing like my other mollys. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of a specific species. pic attached.

It's a sailfin molly, most likely Poecilia latipinna but perhaps the "giant" Poecilia velifera. It's a wild-type fish, and looks exactly as it should. A very nice fish. Almost all the mollies on sale any more are artificial varieties.

Cheers, Neale

Just to make it definite, its a sailfin molly but one with the best colouration ive ever seen!

I just attended a talk on sailfin mollies last night. That's a wild type P. velifera. The difference b/w velifer and latipinna is at the base of the dorsal fin. Velifera has black surrounded white spots, latipinna has dark squiggles: ~~~ thusly. (Of course, it could be a hybrid, in which case all bets are off.)

I usto have one which looked exactly like that :good: I can only find orange ones now though
