So I got a mail order gravel vac and its abit on the large side for my tank. anyway I cant seem to get it syphoning.

Says to lover the thing into the water, grip the tube about 12cm above then thrust the pump backwards and forwards till it starts pulling in muck then go but I cant seem to get it to work :/

I had the same problem.I wasn't moving it vigorously enough. What i did was test it in a bucket of water, until i got the hang of it.

just suck the end of it will soon start :)

Thats what i do :good:

What i used to do is....... submerge the vac in the tank, tilt it so theres no air trapped inside, then shake the vac up and down amking sure not to break the surface, and it should start.

Sucking is the easy way though.

I suck one the other end too, but only for a second so I don't get a mouth full of water. I find that it works better than thrusting it up and down because I have a small tank, 10 gallons. It disterbed the water too much.

make sure the bucket is lower than your fish tank, gravity will help it along
