Hey, I have been keeping 4 silver dollars in my 55 Gallon tank while it was cycling. they have been fine, until i woke up thismorning. i had 3 of them fine, swimming around. but 1 of them was stuck upside down in a plant, dead forsure i thought. anyways, i walked dissapointed to my room to get food for the morning feeding. i threw in an algae pellet and some flakes. i walked away to put them back, and when i came back, there was the "dead" silver dollar eating away at the algae pellet! it was amazing, and i still have no idea what he was doing in that plant!!

What a strange happening! Bet you were really confuzed but happy! :D

Is he OK now?

I had a scare the other day like that. I woke up and went to my tank as usual and couldnt find my peacock cichlid. 1st thought were oh crap its probaly been eaten or something. but then i looked in the back and he was stuck btween a cave and the glass of the tank,he was nose up and looked bad. I moved the cave and he darted off, and is just fine. I think it happened cause i rearranged the tank the day b4 and didnt give them enough room in the back to get in and out, i rearranged it and all is still good.

Just thought I'd pass on a bit parenting advise for silver dollars. I rescued Kenneth just before 2000, he'd been in a tank where the owner was using him to fight pirahhnas. He was at least 2 years old whne There was two but Reno was in too bad a state when I got her and she died soon after. However, Kenneth lived on till a few weeks ago. But in his reign he had me convinced of his death at least oh say 15 times! No kidding, if I hadnt grown used to his tricks - he's have been out that tank a god few years ago. I dont just mean sorta floating at the bottom kinda stuff - i mean upside down or floating on his side on top of the water. Unresponsive to touch even! Haha, little bastard, I think he loved the attention. But anyways - I finally saw the casue a while back - he knocked himself unconscious! He was dumb as hell and Im not sure if thats to do with how he was treated before I got him or its perhaps a Silver Dolar trate. Be warned, they play dead! Give them a long while beofore you take them out... could just be attenetion seeking. I'll tell you too, it fairly works, I was delighted to see him ok!

may be they sleep like that? My grandma had gold fish that slept and they would float to the top or the tank or sink on their side. You had to poke them to wake em up tho....

That's funny. My cories are so afraid of everything, they don't even move when I'm vacumming the gravel. Almost sucked one up twice today, because it wouldn't move.
