sorry this maybe a stupid question but My canister filter was turned off for a while and when i re started it again all it did was throw out tiny bubbles... how do i get it running smoothly again? its been blowing bubbles for hours now...

sounds like you still have an air pocket in your canister/tubes
i had the same sorta problem when i first fitted my fluval external canister.
What I did was disconnect the inlet tube to the tank and syphon up the water (thus releasing the air pocket at the same time).
Do you have a syphon pump?
If not then am afraid yr just gonna have to suck it up!!
try not to smallow too much!!

You could always use a jug and a funnel to pour (tank) water down the outlet tube. This will clear any air in the canister, right through to the intake tube. You will be left with a little air in the outlet, but that is easier to clear than any that is trapped within the canister or intake (and saves taking a mouthful of tank water! )
