I got a Magnum canister filter to go with my new tank, but I have a problem... I can't get all the air bubbles out!! I'm probably doing something wrong, since this is my first canister filter and I have no idea what the heck I'm doing. I "burped" it, and some of the bubbles came out, but the rest just settled in the intake tube which is a problem because, obviously, whenever I turn it back on the bubbles go right back into the filter and just stay there. Any thoughts on what could be the problem? I'm stumped.

I know the exact noise your talking about. I have 3 Mag 350s. One solutions is to turn off the filter... allow bubbles to settle... turn off the valves on both hoses... submerge the flow return... then lower the intake vale to create a siphon into a bucket. All of the bubbles will quickly be removed and you can turn off both valves again (careful not to get more bubbles) and return the hoses to their proper position.

Hope it works, I know that slurping sound drives me crazy.

Thanks for the info, but I kinda didn't bother installing the valve system... one of my friends was "helping" me (aka rushing me) so I just figured I'd install the valves later... I think maybe I can pinch the tube shut and submerge it though. I'll see if that works

slacker :fun:

yea plugging the end with your thumb will do the same thing. It occupies that hand a little... but is still doable.

You really should consider buying the Magnum quick disconnects. Without them you will have some wet adventures when you go to peform maintenance. Over time this will discourage you from doing maintenance on a frequent basis.

Best of luck,

Yeah, I sorta figured that out :p
I went ahead and installed the valve system last night, so now everything is working properly. I loooove how quiet this filter is!

Someone else posted in the beginners forum (I think) and we talked about the micron cartridge... good info... if ya can't find it let me know.

I read that thread just the other day, actually :)
I'm not planning to use the micron cartridge much... too much trouble to switch between the two

it's one of those things... it is a total pain to switch cartridges and preserve the bacteria... but damn is it impressive......
