Lo all,

I'm planning to set up a small reef aquarium (48x18x18) using live rock. I plan to have a couple of powerheads inside the aquarium to help circulate water, and externally a MCE600 skimmer and a Fluval 304.

I'm a little unsure as to what media I should be using in the external canister filter. I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

Cheers

You can either use live rock rubble to use it as a "cryptic fuge" or chemical filtration (such as active carbon, phosban, nitrate removers, etc). You could also have a combination of both.

i have a fluval 305.

This has a 2 part sponge section and a 3 part modular tray section.

I have carbon, rowaphos and purigen in a tray each.

dont forget the return from the cannister also acts like a powerhead.

Hi

Just for a bit of confidence, I run with 2/3rds live rock and up tray with rawphos and carbon for over 3 years in a aqua one CF1000. Works just fine.
