Hey all.

Ive got my old tank up for sale and have just bought a new tank second hand for a bargain.

Old tank was a jebo R3126 was 48"x18"x18"

The new tank i bought is a 72"x24"x24"
So a nice little upgrade.
I will be using 2 x Eheim 2128 (built in 210watt heater)on it. I have also got 2 x uv sterlizers 9watt one for both filters.

Is that enough filtration?

Will i need any additional heaters?

Can i use bambo in it?

The only thing i haven't got is lights
What does anyone recomend?

Excellent upgrade, nice size too - you could get some awsome fish in there :D

Filtration sounds fine to me, although your stocking level and type of fish you have is also an important factor.
Either way i would say they are fine - I like externals too, i have a Eheim Classic 2213 and it serves me very well :)

With regards to bamboo, i dont have a clue - i have never put it in my tanks so im not sure about that......

Lighting - we use 2 bulbs and lighting units that are fitted to the hood of our tank (bit of DIY - see website in sig)
We have a daylight (Power Glo i think) and a Moon Light (Blue Moon i think) light.
They look great on together and the blue moon looks excellent on its own - it brings the plec out as it gives a night time moonlight effect :)

I know alot of ppl use those LEDs for that kind of lighting too, i know The-Wolf has recently purchased some on ebay.

It also depends on your planting requirements - more plants = more light.

Either way im sure it'll look great

Good luck and have fun setting it up - im not jealous at all really  :/  :flex:

IMO bamboo should be fine provided it is thoroughly dried. I have seen bamboo being used to carry water (like a pipe) in the far east.

I never thought of using bamboo, ;) you,ve just gave me a few ideas i could use in the tank

Yes you can use bamboo, i have some in a tank. Its very buoyant so it will have to be held down until it gets water logged and then positioned where you want it.

boil it well first too (if it'll fit in a pan)

it does smell for a while if you dont and it makes the water surface 'thicker' (eg bubbles wont pop)

but once its been in the tank for a while (can take 4 or more weeks for it to stay sunk) its fine.

we have 2 8" tubes in out main tank and 1 8" in our bristle nose tank.

if you want to use it as a cave - just cut it after a division and leave it in place ;)

I've thought of using live bamboo before as it eats up nitrates as a food source but I never got a straight answer on whether it would be safe. Dead, dried bamboo ought to be fine though.

My LFS got a chinese set up with bamboo in... looks great.
Don't know what preping it needs though

Live bamboo is just as safe as most of the other aquraium plants, they wont stay in the ground and they float so anchor them with a rocks or tye them to gravle or sinkers.

But isn't 'bamboo', is a bog plant? I don't think it could survive submerged.

I do use it as a nitrate remover in my 1g betta bowl. I bought it as 8" stems. Now it's over 2 feet tall. Bettas make great fertilizers. ;)

Bamboo would eventually outgrow a tank, but in the meantime, it would help keep the nitrates under control and add to the look of the tank. :)

I was talking about dead bamboo not live. The bamboo i have is very broad ( about 3" diameter ) and it looks great, Ill post some pictures of it later.
