Okay, so my beloved betta, Sweeney died a few weeks back (choked on brine shrimp. His party-hearty life finally got him). I wasn't planning on getting another Betta so soon (a few days after he died) but I came across a female that was TOTALLY a doubletail, something I've never seen at the petstore before, so I had to buy her. She was my first female Betta, and I think I've become addicted. Monashee (the doubletail) is the only one that I'm certain of, when it comes to fin type. It's the other three that I'm slightly confused about. So, without further adieu:

I'm betting this girl is your typical veiltail, but since I actually like her tail, I'm looking for a second opinion. Veiltails just aren't pretty, so I hear (lol, j/k), but I find that I really like how her tail looks. *shrug* The pics don't do her justice; the only "decent" pics I could get were when she was stressed, so her color is nonexistant, and that second pics got her in a sort of mid-fold so her tail looks deformed, lol. But she's a sort of blue or green, depending on her mood (she's exactly like Monashee in that respect). She doesn't have a name yet, as does the next girl.

I think this one might be my favorite because of her color. She's a pale one with a ring of red on the outer edge of her tail, but when she's happy, she gets this really pretty pale blue color. I can't stop staring at her when that happens. You can imagine I'm trying to find the PERFECT name for her that goes with her sweet color, but nothing fits her ("Enya" is too cheesy, but it's the only that fits even remotely so far). Anyway, her tail looks more like crowntail than the other girls, but after looking at female crowntails on google, it doesn't appear that way. So I'm confused.

Paprika is quite possibly the dullest, least pretty Betta I've ever had (male or female), but she does have a decent tail, colorwise. 'Course, that could be helped by the fact that she has absolutely no sparkle or sheen or glitter or anything in her torso. Totally flat and dull. She's a big girl, though, and the big momma amongst the others (who are mostly just babies right now). She was sold as a roundtail, but I could see that she was obviously a female, and she kept staring at me, so I had to buy her (I had a Roundtail, which was Sweeney, and her tail looked nothing like his, but her curiosity won me over). In hindsight, it's possible she's a female Roundtail? She was just listed as "Roundtail Betta" and typically if it doesn't say "female" anywhere, it's a boy. Anyway, what do you think? Her rays seem to have that rounded look that I'm seeing in pictures of Roundtail males, but the only comparison to a Roundtail I have is with Sweeney, who had a big ol' balloon of a tail. Also, don't know if it means anything, but she has double rays (hope I'm getting it correct, maybe it's double branching), but one of them has three branches. Of course, it could be that my eyes are tricking me. Eh, I'm still learning, lol. Probably you can't see it in these pics, but I tried to catch it. I'm not seeing them either *shrug*

Aussie I just had to register and respond to this post b/c I was searching the net trying to find out the type of female Betta I recently purchased (didn't bother to ask at pet store) for my kids and I stumbled upon this page. I was pleasantly surprised to see a picture of the exact Betta I was searching for, I have the one you named paprika and the the crazy thing is she was certainly the dullest and least pretty of all the Betta's in the store but she was by far the liveliest and kept staring at us as well so I just had to get her. I wonder if that is a known trait of her kind, I guess they have to make up for their lack of sparkle and sheen! LOL.

Well anyway I just had to share my little story about Stephanie (my 6yr old named her that for whatever reason) and definitely going to check back to find out her finnage!

girl number 1 I say vt, with the possibilty of a tiny bit of pk in there.

girl number 2 I say pk, her lower fins is just so short and neat.
girl number 3 I also say pk.

beware 2 and 3 becoming boys, they just have that look to them.

Thanks, that's very helpful. But why'd you have to say that last part? I'm fairly certain Paprika is female, but it's #2 that I haven't been able to locate the ovipositor spot (I've been hoping that's because the body color is so pale that an ovi spot would be hard to locate). She does like to flare, though, but she doesn't have a beard, so she's probably female. On the other hand, Paprika hasn't flared once yet. She's just so laid back and calm. Hmmmmm.
