The next question is, can you read the moods of friends, lovers or strangers? It's not a skill we can take for granted, and a lot of people are very weak on the empathy front. Reading moods across species is amazing when we're accurate, but a lot of smart people can't even read people.

If I try to read the mood of tetras after watching propaganda news from the US, I think they're all full of hate and aggression and dreams of killing me. If I fish watch after realistic stuff, I think they're easy going shoalers with no interest in me at all!

I agree. Techinically the topic title is not the same as the research linked.
Can I read my dog's mood? Absolutely.
Can I reliably assess the mood of someone else's dog based purely on a video? Not neccessarily
