Hi ,i`ve bought some freshwater shrimp from pets at home,a few weeks ago[this is what they`re sold as]and i`ve just noticed that one has eggs underneath, will it be possible to raise them in a normal tropical tank?

It depends on the species of Shrimp but most will raise them their selves.

Amano Shrimp larvae can't develop in freshwater however.

sadly that's not a great description/name for the shrimp. It could be hundreds of species.

Got any pictures of them?

I`ll try ,but i haven`t

mastered uploading pics yet. They`re definately not amano as i`ve got them as well .Have copied Coldcazzies picture ,hope she doesn`t mind, but they`re the same.

I also have these from a local Pets At Home, which they label as either 'freshwater shrimp' or 'algae shrimp'. I didn't think they were Amano myself either, some sort of common grey shrimp ?? Fun to watch though and greedy little fellas!

P.S- don't put any small or juvenile Red Cherry or Crystal Red Shrimp in with these lot, the males see them as 5 for £11 snacks!

Terry.

Thanks for that ,have you managed to raise their eggs though?

Not a hope in hell..the males feast on them overnight. I would presume they need taking out and putting into another small tank with salt.

If it's shrimp breeding you are interested in then may i suggest trying one of the many, many other beautiful coloured ones available? Crystal Red for a start, awesome looking things, if the grades are in your favour.

Maybe if i put the female in a tank on her own,or do the eggs need saltwater?
