Can You Mix Shrimp?

Hi, can you mix armano and cherry shrimp in the same tank ,was thinking of one of each

I'd add way more than one of each as they are community dwellers, apart from that I am pretty sure you can mix these two types together but if I were you I would wait for someone to back me up!

I'm not sure if it's just the adult Amano shrimp that i have (we have nicknamed him 'The Thug') but he really doesn't like little Red Cherry Shrimp in the 30L tank with him...well, he does, but he simply catches them and eats them all! I have asked and researched this particular issue a few times, with many people saying it shouldn't happen and they should live in peace together.

'The Thug' is a big adult male mind. On two seperate occasions i bought 2/3 juvenile R.C.S and he's polished them all off. I simply thought they were getting sucked up into my internal filter, until i came downstairs one morning and caught him chewing through TWO AT A TIME! Anyway, the amano's stay in my 30L whilst my most recent batch of R.C.S are happy in my 110L tank.

Amanos shouldn't eat Cherry shrimp, however in the past i have had a few male Amanos, and they have the knack to almost smell impending death. As Taffy Apple said, they will stalk a weaker species whether it be fish or other shrimp that are dying or close to death. I have observed this a few time over the years in my tanks. I remember a few years introducing a Dwarf Gourami (a weak species at the best of times!) to my 60ltr and i thought everything was good, and this Amano i had was stalking him around the tank for a few hours, in the morning the Amano was just finishing his dinner. I currently have about 6 Amanos and 10 Cherries in my tank and theres no problem.

BTW you need to be adding more than 1 of each, but thats been covered ^^^
