Hi. My silver dollar has had a bump on his side for a couple of weeks or more now. The bump has now gotten smaller but there are small indentations at the site and some dark discolouration which does not look good. He has been fine up until now, eating and acting normal. Tonight he seems to have a bit of a hard time staying afloat and so he'll rest on the bottom. I have put him into a quarantine tank that has had some fish in it and i added Melafix. I want to add some fungus eliminator at the same time. Is this ok?

I've used both Melafix and Jungle Fungus Eliminator at the same time on one of my bettas and it was fine... cleared everything up really fast. Good luck with your fishie. :flowers:

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. The fungus eliminator i have is also by Jungle so I just added some. I might be too late to save the fish but i'm going to try anyway; he's one of my favorites.
*Animation, the Mela Fix is supposed to help cure damaged fins, ulcers, and open wounds, fin and tail rot, eye cloud, pop eye, body slime and mouth fungus. It is a popular medication.

Melafix isn't an antibiotic, but an antiseptic and fungicide. It is essentially just diluted tea tree oil :)

Yeah, thats why you can use Melafix with other meds, it's natural and not a combo of different chemicals. I beleive most meds say not to use with other meds, I'd also think the concentrations might be stressfull.

Melafix doesn't actualy do anything besides smell nice and, apparently, calm fish down. Take a look at the percentage of active ingredients :p It's fine to use anything with melafix but melafix alone is unlikely to help you with any serious diseases.

I disagree! MelaFix is a mild antibacterial agent that is very effective when used in the early stages of some bacterial infections. Often it's all that's needed to clear the problem up. I feel it's worth a try because it does nothing to interfere with the beneficial bacteria like many medicines do.

I've found that if it is going to be effective at all, the fish will show some improvement within a day or two. If nothing happens, I suggest doing a big water change and moving on to a more heavy duty medication. :D

For any that are interested, I have been doing a daily water change and using Melafix as well as a fungus eliminator. I turned the temperature up a little but not very much. I am going into the third day now and the fish showed an overnight improvement the first night. The area of concern on the fish is still not properly healed, but the fish is no longer listless, seems to swim, float and eat as normal so i am hoping that maybe he'll be ok. So far things look encouraging.

i believe its natural too. it smells nice :p
i agree with that, has a nice yet addictive smell, i was also told it did contain some form of tea tree oil in it, totally natural yet affective, same as garlic aswell, not so nice on the smell though.
