I dont think you can but my friend seems to think that its ok and is keeping 5 ghost koi who are all about 8 inches long in the tank.

What do you think about this? Should i say anything to her? Help!

Yeah, you most definitely cannot keep koi in tanks without shortening their lifespan and making their lives very uncomfortable. They're very active fish that require a lot of space, and the amount of mess they create makes them one of the messiest fish of all.

I'd recommend your friend to either go tropical, or get a maximum of 4 fancy goldfish or 2 common goldfish.

Most koi get to 2-3ft long and are active fish, you are looking at around a 400gallon tank for just a couple of koi.

Thankyou. Thats what i thought.

Can i show her what you have written??

I've got no problem with that. If she signs up, we could help her find what fish she might enjoy?

If it's to "winter the fish" I don't see it being wrong. By 4 foot you mean something close to a 100 gallon? I'd worry more about the filteration, though. But with enough water chages it'll be fine for temporary situation.
