I have 3 mickey mouse platies, 1 white cloud minnow, 1 neon tetra, and 1 female Betta in my 10-gallon aquarium -- so, what are the chances that maybe I could stick my male, Mr. Wimpy Fish, in there, too? ^^;

I have heard of SOME people doing it and I'm just curious~

I guess it just really depends on the fish, but would it be so bad to just *try* it? :eek:

Thanks. ^^;

yeah the male would kill the female its often wild bettas that are kept in pairs

Hi, i have a betta Imbellis pair that live together fine but 'normal' bettas are a no go!!!

It's a really bad idea. I've heard of people doing it but they have huge tanks, not little 10 gallons, and even then most of them have come back a few weeks later and said "yeah, he did kill her in the end". Also - it was often experienced keepers that tried this, who knew all sorts of arcane techniques to make them accept each other and knew just how to scape their tank to make it safe for the fish. It also entirely depends on the fish's personality. Just because it worked for someone else (and by worked I mean "they've not killed each other yet") doesn't mean it will work for you.

There is no point 'trying' it. It could be fine for a few minutes, hours, days or even months, and then one day you could come home to find one or more dead or seriously injured fish. You'll never be able to be there all the time and stop anything bad happening.

If you want more fish in the tank, you'd be better off adding more neon tetras as they are shoaling fish and really, really should be in groups of 5 or more. Not sure about white clouds.

Yes, it would be bad to try it because you already know it could potentiall be a problem. Sorry.

No, please don't do it, one or both of them could end up getting seriously hurt and then sucumb to an illness due to the stress of it all, the people that have managed it succesfully have done so in a much larger tank than 10 gallons with plenty of plants and even then it is risky so I wouldn't recommend it, your neon and minnow could do with a few more friends though :)

Thanks; I'm actually planning on buying another tank at some point to house Mr. Wimpy Fish in (ALONE, OF COURSE :eek: ), and I *WAS* actually planning to give Terra and Oddball some more friends; I actually just recently found what type Oddball is (I haven't known for, like, the past, what, 2 years? XD), so I'm buying him some friends (because I saw them at Big Al's the other day); for some reason my neons kept dying so when the just the one survived I kind of LEFT him like that. DX

Since my Mom wants to move Metamorphix (the female Betta) into a 2-gallon in my sister's bedroom because she was harassing the other fish and besides, I wanted more smaller fish, ANYWAYS (besides, of course, the platies; I love them too much even though they ARE somewhat large XD), I guess I'm free to get the smaller fish as now I have 2 more gallons of space (because, y'know, the 1-inch-per-1-gallon rule? :3), so I can get more minnows and neons! WOOT! ^^; :D :lol: :3 :) ^^;

in there own aquarium, male Bettas look peaceful but in a community, they sometime start chasing around other fishes i remember my brother had a male Betta and he chased around the three diamond tetras in there

Hmm.... In that case, I might just upgrade Mr. Wimpy Fish later, and just add some more neon tetras and white cloud (mountain?) minnows to the tank, for now. ;)

Thanks for all your help, guys! ^^; :D :) :lol: <333333333
