Can You Id This Algae?

Trying to identify this type of algae. I have been researching how to get rid of it but i am not sure i have the right one. Seems to be popping up on the edges of the leaves of my older plants and on some spots of my driftwood

Looks like hair algae to me. It looks similar to the algae in this picture which is hair algae http/www.gpas.org/pub/flash/2003/july03/Algae3.jpg

I've never had hair algae, so I can't identify it using my own experience.

looks more like BBA (Black Brush Algae) to me. apparently 3 x overdose of flourish excel gets rid of it but it wont deal with the cause of the problem. what are your water parameters? most importantly nitrAte and phosphate (if you have a phosphate kit that is).

It's definitely BBA.

There's plenty of experience on here regarding BBA and its treatment. Type "beard algae" or "brush algae" into this forum's search facility and you'll find plenty of info there.

The pinned algae article will also help.

Getting rid of it is relatively easy - keeping it away is the harder part.

In short plenty of plant growth brought about by ideal lighting and nutrient balance is the best long term algae treatment and preventative technique.
