Hi :D

This girlies body shape is so different to my other girls. I would like to know if she's another type of Betta ie Plakat, or is she deformed? -_- Also her barbs are a pretty blue colour, not the dark black/brown colour of my other girls.

Heres some pics:

These ones show her body shape:

This one shows her blue stress lines - if they are she's always had them but no clamping of fins.

Cheers, and thanks for the help in advance... :D

EDIT: dopey me didn't add the second image!!!

There does not seem to be anything wrong with her, except she is full will eggs. :D

The stripy line on her body is, she is ion fear of a male or another female, when ready to breed these will turn vertigal

Its more about her humped back than her belly that my question is posed around. Maybe the pics dont really show this? But there is a definate bump above her head ie like shoulders on a betta.

she does look like a normal betta, and compared to my females i used to have shes the same :)

have you cosider spawning her, maybe it will go away after that

I'm no expert on finnage, but to me (just from looking at my 3 plakat males) it looks like a plakat. The anal fin is very pointed at the back, which is what all my plakats anal fins look like, plus they all have that "hump" look to them.

If no one else answers you.. you should PM Wuv, she would know for sure, I'd bet.

p.s. there is no need to spawn her to get her to drop her eggs...most do it on their own when they are ready...showing her a male for a few days will make that happen faster...but be prepared to clean her tank as soon as she does. :fun:

One of my plakats had one of those humps as well. I would assume she is.

And DO NOT breed her.

My friend had a fish like that, with a slight hump....he was fine. He lived a long time...I think it maybe some kind of deformity. As long as she's happy.

Just wondering, haven't there been betta with those "stress lines" who always have them? (I have no clue since none of mine do)

I'm going to say she's a regular veil female with a slight crook in her spine that gives her the more roundish shape and the 'hunchback look'. Her anal fin is far too long to be a plakat.

cheers everyone, and thank you for your answers.
so she's probably slightly deformed. That's Ok. I still love her.
No, no intention to breed her right now, if at all. I think she's happy enough in a female community tank, with a few other fishies.
I'm looking more at research before I breed, I love the emerald/turquise strains mixing it with purple perhaps?, but I'm looking at least doing deltas sometime in the future. On butterfly's perhaps. Its getting the good quality stock that I am having trouble doing. It looks as if I'm going to need to import before I'm ready for breeding, and that's going to be a considerable financial and time consuming thing. I currently have plenty of room.

It's definately something I don't wish to take lightly. Being here taught me that!

We currently have livebearers and choc groumai's to breed for now...

I'm sorry to say that even though she appeared 'healthy' despite her deformity, she died unexpectedly today. :-( I thought she was a pretty girl despite it, I am not sure if that was actually the cause or another symptom (ie poor genes/weakness). All of my other girls are fine except recovering still from harrassing each other.

I do love my bettas I don't like to see them sick or die.

:rip: little girl.
