My wife and I intend to have a pond in our garden for most of her coldwater fish when they oput grow the aquariums but I wondered if it was possible to heat an outside pond as I have a large pangasius catfish which one day will be going in a pond.
He wouldnt bother the goldfish but just wondered if its possible?

yes you can heat ponds but too a tropical level it's going to cost alot not only in equipment but in running costs.

alot of koi keepers heat there ponds with some expensive kit.

but how to plan to keep a tropical catfish with coldwater goldfish in the same pond!

and the pangassius WILL eat the goldfish once he's full size.

Don't know how big or deep the pond is but if you cover it with plastic sheets it'll retain heat better (thicker the better). Or you can get "sheets of styro" at Home Depot then again you can get pond liners that'll help too.

With a combination heater and cover you can retain heat better for less.

There wont be golfish in there, maybe a sturgeon but it depends how big a pond we can built and if the stergeon would tolerate the tropical conditions.

Just in the planning stages just now but considering an indoor pond now.

Cheers guys.

I would advise an indoor pond, just get one of those plastic tub ones, be careful where you put it though as any decent sized indoor pond will weigh alot- also put some netting or somthing over the top so the fish doesn't jump out.
