For some reason I recieved a magazine called Doctors Foster&Smith from their site www.drsfostersmith.com and they were selling this 5 gallon tank and it had a picture of it and the fish that were in the tank were............wait for it.................. ANGELFISH, yeah thats right angelfish and there wasn't 1 not 2 not even 3 there was 4 small angel fish and 1 medium size ones in there. now I thought that people like docters would know the requirements for angels but apparently not and there was another picture of a 2.5g with about 20 guppys in it. I think its just wrong.

Whew now I feel alittle better. ;)

The pic was from their add department. Marketing people are more concerned about how pleasing the ad looks. Not the function of what they are selling. Form before function :( Not very effective to the hobbyist.

Ive gotten their flyer before although I've never ordered form them (they're prices are VERY high). I usually just trash them without looking at them. I will say I had 4 angels in a 5 gallon once. It was my Q-tank and the angels were all of about 3/4" long. I know it's bad to show what they did but I think most places like that show an overstocked tank so you can actually see the fish in them if that makes any sense. It does give beginners the wrong impression though.

i would agree that its probably been done by the marketing team but you would think that things like that would go through some quality checks or something before being sent out to the masses - many of which (of course not TFF members) are easily influenced and dont know what are good or bad practices !!

Yeah I mean like say I never found this site and got that magazine and saw that I would think that would be ok and go out and get a few angels and put them in there and then they get bigger and they kill each other or I take my 2.5g and put 20 guppies in there.

TBH I'm not sure the 20+ guppies they show would physicly fit in a 2.5g... That would be an interesting experiment, recreate the supposed allowed stocking... Only for a couple of photos, mind.

from the website

that's just wrong

likeaquaria.com[/url], you'll see that they actually tend to advocate tanks larger than the minimums you'll see recommended on this forum. 30 gallons minimum for otos, for example.
