Something mentioned but not answered in a seperate topic, but can the tap water conditioner used to remove chlorine etc also end up removing some of the metals etc added by some fertilisers for aquariums?

Wouldn't think so. Most remove heavy metals (like Zinc) so I wouldn't think it'd remove ferts. Certainly people have been using it for years and the plants still grow so thats good enough for me! :)

I always wondered about that myself, sometimes leaving a hour before dosing Flourish after a waterchange.
Its nice to find out otherwise :good:

Sodium thiosulfate is the usual ingredient in dechlorinators. It works by breaking the NH-Cl bond and will have no effect on traces.

A lot of the water conditioners also contain chelators for complexeing heavy metals in the tap water, ie rendering them harmless to the fish. What I think was being asked is if this can happen to the heavy metals in the tap water, could it also happen to the metals in the trace element mix.
