can someone identify if this is algae growth on my java fern? I've got brown a black growing on the leaves( only the leaves the rest of tank is totally free from black and brown algae it's strange)

What is it? What's the likely cause? Should I remove it? Should I trim back the balck and brown algae covered leaves?

I'm getting a small shoal of ottocinclus will they eat brown/balck algae?

I'm still reasonably new to the aquarium scene so ask any questions no matter how basic please.

Thanks,

Hard to tell but may be new baby plants.

Do a Google image search for “baby Java fern growth” and see if what you’re seeing is the same thing as what you see in the images.

There are definite signs of adventitious plants in especially the last photo. These grow from spores on the frond [= leaf] as this is a fern. The brownish collection could be roots, or organics; I suspect the latter, but these are not harmful at this stage.

The white line of "stuff" I cannot identify from these photos.
