Thanks very much................martin

Pachypanchax playfairi

A Little Info on them

Common Names: Playfair's Panchax, Golden Panchax

Natural Range: Zanzibar, Seychelles and Madagascar

Size: Up to 10cm

Diet: Will accept dry and frozen foods, but prefers livefoods

Temp: 22-25C

pH: Slightly acidic at 6.0-7.0

Min Tank Size: 75L, 20G

Tank Conditions: Since it is aggressive towards its own kind and will prey on smaller fish, it should ideally be kept on its own. If kept in a community, it will require a large tank. there should be open swimming space flanked by thick vegetation. The substratum should be fine grained and the lighting subdued. Hiding places should be provided and a aquarium cover is needed as the fish is an excellent jumper. If kept in a community keep with fish larger than itself as small fish will be preyed upon.

Could be a Golden Wonder, but looks just like the Playfair in my book.

Believe me Andy, its not Playfairi
It's Aplo. Lineatus (wild form) not golden wonder.

Ok, i was just saying it looks like the Playfairi in my book. If you say its not then it prob is not

Thanks both,

Any pics of it anywhere else.........Is the golden variety the same as this one....are they the same fish.
Does the golden one appear in the wild or is it a tank bred variety

thanks very much.............martin

Thanks....the wild seems to look a bit like the red....or is the red another selectively bred.

Havn`t seen them before in this form ( wild ) are they reasonably common ?

Thanks and regards...............martin

There are a few enhanced colourations of Aplo. lineatus
Golden Wonders as some like to call them being the most common.
The wild colouration and the so called red (just an enhancement colouration as I said) a little less so these days.
The all are effectively the same species Aplochelius lineatus.
You should be able to source all of these with little trouble.
Very easy to breed.
