Can Some-One Id This Fish Please

My work mates sister has three of these in a small coldwater tank, she started off with more but with bullying etc she only has three left. She was bought them and she thinks they are called Dace. I googled this and saw to what size they can reach. The fish are for her son. Would she be better putting these into a pond and maybe with a help of a heater have some neons or guppy's. I did give her a couple of Apple snails (which her son loved) but I also think the dace did too. Would really welcome some advice on these, so I can pass it on.

Have a look at the red belly dace, there are two varieties which get to between 2"-4" so should be fine for life in adequately sized fish tank

That's the picture she sent to me. I'm not familiar with this type of fish, that's why I asked for advice. I want to make sure that she hasn't been bought the wrong type of fish.
