bit of a bizarre turn in my big tank last, after cooking some potatos for tea, i had a few left over so put one in every tank as a treat. now all the inhabitants wolfed it down, the plecos especially loved them!
then just a few hours later i had a fair few dead platys?

coincidence or ????

Check your water stats.
You only blanch potatoes I think. Not add them fully cooked. I would post in tropical discussion.

I prefer not to use potatoes at all because they can cause ammonia problems and the starch can be too much if the fish eat a lot of it. It could also have been something you put on the spuds (ie: vegetable oil) and it caused problems to the water or the fish.
Onions are another one to avoid.

Sounds silly but I know if we eat lots of green potatos it can make us quite poorly. I think it would take quite a bit for us but maybe fish are more sensitive?
