I've been in the hobby for a while but havent really attempted to grow live plants and have been thinking about planting my 65 gal tank and am interested in what kinds of plants will grow in it. I dont know exactly what kind of light I have, just the basic on that comes on any hood. I guess my question is will or what plants will grow in that light or will I have to buy a new light if I want to grow live plants?

Have a look at the pinned topics, especially the Members section and the articles, and get an idea of what you'd like to accomplish. What are currently keeping in your 65g? Some fish species don't go so well with plants. No sense investing in plants if they are going to end up being somebody's salad.

Currently I have an opaline gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus), moonlight gourami (Trichogaster microlepis), blue paradise fish (Macropodus opercularis), Leopard gourami (Ctenopoma acutirostre),
3 silver dollars (Metynnis argenteus), and 5 yoyo loaches (Botia almorhae).

I think anubias might be avoided, too, because it's a different texture.
I'm not sure about elodea densa, though, my turtles love it! :)

Alright thanks! I think I'm going to put some live plants in. Will they be alright in a sand substrate or will I need to put something else around their roots??
