Is it possible to get a reducing nitrate level?

My tank is 4 weeks old now and at last my NO2 is reading zero (it's been about 0.1 mg/L for the last week). What puzzles me is that my NO3 is also down slighly too (to about 4 mg/L, from 5 or 6), compared to a couple of days ago.

It's a 380 L tank with 7 plants, 6 neon tetras, 2 platties and 2 swordtails.

Is it possible for plants and algae to use nitrate faster than the fish produce?

Yes, this is possible...my tapewater measures 10ppm but my tank water is about 3 ppm, so as long as you have enough plants it is possible for them to use it up...! :)

Ahh. I guess that must be it then!

I expect i'll soon have more nitrate than I want when I stock more fish :)

Thanks Jo :)
