i am getting ideas for my next tank and i wanted to get some advice. i had baby angel that has outgrown his 15 gallon tank. so i am looking into getting a larger tank. so here is what i am picturing...

my angel, a few african chiclids, and a school of neons. can i put a new world chiclid with african chiclids? i know the africans can be agressive. would they terrorize my angel or the neons? would i be better off with blue rams? i have always wanted to do a chiclid tank, but i have to get my angel out of his cramped quarters. have any of you any experience with a group of fish like this? what size tank could i get (minimum?)

thanks!!!

Yeah dont do it. And also i wouldnt put the angels with the neons because they are just natural swimming food for them. You should be ok with a couple of rams.

You have to look at the differing water requirements of some of the fish you have suggested. Neon Tetras like soft water with a low PH, whereas African Cichlids such as those in Lake Malawi, Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyikan like harder water with a much higher PH.

New World Cichlids such as Rams etc are much better as their water requirements are so much closer.

i have him with my rummies and he is fine with them. so rams would be ok with the angel?

Yes they should be ok. Its not just the water requirements as previously posted but african cichlids will often kill any new fish that is put into their tank and angles wouldnt put up much of a fight.

would the rams be ok with tetras?

I dont see why they wouldent be ok, I have seen it done many times.

By the way rummies get considerably larger than neons do and are mutch more active, so just cause they are fine with the angel dosent mean the neons would be (in the wild angels prey on neons). If you want to try something like the neons then mayby cardinal tetras? They get bigger so they might have a better chance with the angels.

P.S: Its preety hard for them to eat anything thats bigger than their mouths!
