I've heard that they can be kept together and that they fight when together. I need the truth.

To owners of Archers...what is you personal experience with this subject?

I need to know if I can get 3 or 4, because I don't want them to fight.

Thanks :)

Archers are very much like Cichlids in their temperment. If you keep too few then one dominent fish will terrorise the others, likewise if the tank is not big enough they will fight. The key seems to be to keep 4-5 archers in at least a 75g tank to keep aggression down to a minimum.

I agree. I kept 3, and the aggression was mild. then one died, and the remaining 2 fought to the point where I had to split them up.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Fella, I am curious as to what you tank setup was like. What size tank did you house your 3 Archers in? And what were the conditions of the tank, ie. specific gravity, plants, and water height/depth. Also, did you keep any driftwood with them?

I'd say more is better, aim for 3-5 at least. This sounds stupid, but it seems that they're better off in odd numbered groups. Give them plenty of room and if fighting persists I rearrange the decor to keep the tank neutral territory. Everyone feels insecure when they're not on their own turf.
