I am just wondering if mollies and platies or guppies can cross breed and if there are any documented stories about it being successful. I posted this in the new to fish section and was told this would be a better place to get a response. (I should pay attention to the other categories offered on this chat board!) Sorry about that! Thanks!!

I can only repeat what I said before. Platies and swordtails will produce viable fry. Platies cannot breed at all with either guppies or mollies. Swordtails cannot breed at all with either platies or mollies. Guppies and mollies do occasionally breed but the fry tend not to live long (check out the thread labelled "Golly" in the hybrids forum, as this is a typical account of what happens. If both guppies and mollies have members of the other sex of their own species in the tank they are much less likely to bother trying to breed with another species.
