I am looking for a cheap 55 gallon tank to rehome my pleco (see sig) and was wondering if killifish were compatible with the pleco and maybe some black tetras?

I don't see any issues for the killifish and pleco, although a 55 is a bit tight for a common pleco, maybe look for a 77 or 90 gallon?

as for the killifish and tetras, it depends on the killifish species

Unfortuanlty and sadly the pleco is somewhat stunted because he was bought a year ago at the length of 4" and I had no clue on how big they got so I got him and put him in my 10 gallon tank for a year then once I learned about their size I was only able to get a long 20g because it was given to me now a year and a half later he is only 5" to 6" long and some people said that by after a year he should already be 10" long so I think he is alittle stunted and just wanted to give him the biggest tank I can offer so he can grow alittle bit more, if he can. :( I think their called killifish here is a link to what I believe to be killifish http://www.fishesnpets.net/gallery/killifish/redkilli7.jpg something like that or this since their both colorful http://www.killifish.com/images/guentherigold.jpg So are these compatible with both pleco and black tetra?

you would get a better response concerning these specific species in the oddballs forums as that is where the killifish specialists hang around :)

I doubt there would be an issue though.

As for the plec, maybe he will continue to grow in the 55 gallon tank.

Again, need to know what Killifish species you intend to keep in your tank. You are looking at only one aspect (compatibility) what about water parmaeters etc.

Well I showed you all what kind I wanted I even put pictures up. I figured they were freshwater fish to and required the same as plecos and black tetras.

Then go ahead, the answer is yes they should be OK with your other charges. I only wanted to give you some more information about that particular species in respect to keeping them in a community tank for show.

Oh so that wasn't info on how to breed? Is that what they require no gravel and peat or bog wood?

No wilder I don't want to breed I simply want them in a 45g tank with my pleco that will be taken from my long 20g to this tank I might be getting and maybe put some black tetras in with the killifish. So I believe bigc answered it but do you think they are compatible?

Edit: Sorry wilder thought that was a site on how to breed, didn't realise it was a care sheet. Thanks

Durkbat, I have some Killifish that I got from BigC. As he really is a Killi "expert" I'd go with what he recommends - or people who have actually successfully kept these fish. I am too much of a novice Killifish keeper to give you an opinion.

It's not just about "keeping fish" though, is it ? It's about trying to provide the best environment for them isn't it ? Otherwise what's the point of fishkeeping ?

Trying to cram in pretty fish just for show .....

Thats not what I meant by keep them I meant keep them in the biggest space I can provide. So bigc can I have gravel in the tank with fake plants if I can get a 45g to put my pleco?

So bigc can I have gravel in the tank with fake plants
:/ YES....I suppose so.

As he really is a Killi "expert"
Far from being an expert Bloozoo, just that I've been keeping them for so long now that I've learnt a few of the pitfalls along the way. This knowledge was passed on to me by someone else therefore I am only a custodian and I, in turn, pass on what I have learnt to others. They don't have to listen to my ramblings and indeed they might do things differently and get better results or even make a new discovery. One of the things that go to make this hobby of ours so interesting.
Regards
BigC

Thanks for all your time bigc but now I'm debating getting killifish or angelfish, its driving me crazy and I haven't even gotten the tank yet.
