can i????????

HITH is caused by poor water quality. Technically angels' aren't as frail as some other fish, so as long as you check your water conditions weekly and do weekly 30% water changes, you should be ok. Remember that if there is a problem ( High Ph, Low Ph, High Nitrate, Ammonia) fix it.

I sound like i'm forcing you to keep angels, lol.

Hmm, Festivums are VERY neat fish. You could have maybe 4 max in your tank.

thanks for the info on HITH but when i had the problem my water was tested a lot. i tested it, and 3 lfs tested it and nobody could find anything wrong we were all at a loss.. :dunno: :dunno:

i'm still thinking about 1 oscar, is there any other fish i could keep with one oscar in my tank?

i could setup the big tank temparilory in about 6 months if i have to. it won't be decorated well but it could house the fish for a while if needed.

has anybody else had HITH problems for no apparent reason?? maybe i was doing something wrong, although the local fish store employees said i was doing everything right

In general, most fish illnesses are caused by:

a. transport stress and poor LFS conditions
or
b. poor fishkeeping practices

Very rarely do otherwise healthy fish in well maintained conditions develop diseases. This is certainly true for HITH.

The disease is linked with a protozoan parasite, Hexamita (sometimes known as Octomitus). This may often be present at low levels in fish, but the acute infection does not occur unless factors like poor water quality or poor diet have an influence. Therefore, Hexamita alone may not be the primary cause, and good water quality and a varied diet should prevent this disease occuring. (source: The Tropical Tank)

And stop listening to your LFS. Seriously. Get your information from a reliable source (here, other sites, good books), then go to the LFS and get your fish or supplies. I wouldn't trust a car dealership or a supermarket to give me reliable answers about car features or cooking... and I wouldn't trust an LFS employee to know about fish. If they prove themselves by confirming multiple pieces of information you already know, that may give them credit, but otherwise, assume they don't know what they're talking about.

*climbs off soapbox* :*)

there are only certian employees i listen to at each of my local fis stores. i have been keeping fish almost all my life and know a lot about the fish i have kept. i research each species beofre i geet it and then go to the lfs and talk to the employees. a few employees really know what they are talking about when it comes to tank size and what type fish needs what space and so on so don;t knock all employees before you meet them please!!
