Can I Use This Light On This Timer

We would need the information of the mechanical timer to see if thier are any faults. The biggest thing in my opinion to made sure of is that everything is grounded. That and make sure that the timer has a ground knob in it.
 
From what I read there, I'd say that timer is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. In other words it will more than adequately cope with the load of that lamp, so by far OK to use!

While we are on the subject of timming lights whats the actual spec of the contactor needed to swith say a 150 w mh light i take it its a 240v coil (for uk) switching 240v but what else spec wise should i look for

sorry, can't help you there adambrum, not a tech guy.

Its a Brinks grounded plug so I guess it's ok then.
